Dog pooping inside after a walk

Our 17 week old puppy has recently been toilet trained. Most days he’s really good, he waits to go outside in the garden, and he’s recently started going to the toilet while out on a walk.

I know accidents will happen, and that’s ok.

We took our pup for a walk tonight, on the walk he did a poop. We got back home about 10 minutes after this and went immediately into the garden, just to make sure he didn’t need the toilet. In the garden he had a pee. We waited and gave him the chance to see if he needed to do anything else, absolutely nothing.

we went back inside and about 5/10 mins later he decided to pee, on his blanket? And then straight after this he went over to my lovely new rug and did a poop 🙃

does anyone have an explanation for why this is happening? Why did he decide to pee on his blanket? This isn’t the first time he’s done this. I was always told a dog wouldn’t go to the toilet where they sleep, is this incorrect information?

Any advice and information would be great please. I know accidents do happen, but I’m wondering if we’re doing something wrong

A one off? Probably just excitement of being back home. Or confusion because he's just been praised for toileting. Or an accident. Honestly don't read anything into it if it's only Helens this once. Lots of opportunities to do the right thing, big praise and reward when he does, associate it with a word. Sounds like your doing just fine :)

Thank you, that’s reassuring. I think sometimes we forget he’s just a puppy because he is huge haha
