Stop house cat peeing on floor

I have two house cats - 4 years old. The male has started peeing on the floor in different rooms over the last two months. It’s happening every day now. He’s never done this before. I got a new litter tray so they have one in the kitchen and another in the hall. I feed them separately. I’ve bought new toys. I used a different, stronger scented disinfectant to clean up. We live near a busy road and there’s been cat poisoning in this estate so I can’t let him outside. He doesn’t try to get outside. I don’t know what else to do. Does anyone have any recommendations?

It can be a sign of bladder/kidney issues not going in the litter tray. You should get him checked by the vet. Or maybe he is spraying? Or he won't share a littler tray with the other cat? Or he wants more privacy, one of our cats won't go for a wee if someone walks in on her 😁

I took him to the vet last month for his annual check up and she said he’s fine. She gave me a few suggestions which I’ve tried but they’re not working.

It's often a sign of stress unfortunately and once they start it can be very difficult to get them to stop.

What's your living situation?

Have you tried pet pheromone plug ins? I find pet remedy better than feliway but they can really help reduce stress. Also depending on space a 3rd tray is recommended for 2 cats. Sometimes a different type of litter can help, cats can be very fussy. There are also stress relief supplements you can get from your vet, zylkene is one but there are others. Worth a try.
Biological washing powder is best for cleaning as neutralises the urine.
