Has anyone bought a pet from a breeder and had them couriered?

My question is - I've a breeder who seems genuine - and they regularly use couriers to deliver their kittens for a fee. I'm feeling anxious about parting with money for a kitten she will then supposedly hand to a courier to deliver a two hour drive away. It's all on trust. It seems mad. Should I insist on paying when I get the cat? Instead? She has a Facebook and insta for her sellers page but no feedback or banter from buyers .. even though her gccf prefix checks out she could be using someone else's. I'm so cautious about scammers. Any pet breeders out there?

I wouldn't touch a 'breeder' like that with a barge pole.

Donotshushme · 29/08/2023 21:25

That is so obviously a kitten farmer it's not even funny.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2023 21:26

Kitten farmer. Do not buy!

user76541055773 · 29/08/2023 21:27

This can’t possibly be serious, surely!

avocadotofu · 29/08/2023 21:28

Definitely a bad breeder. Do not buy!!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/08/2023 21:28

Aren't you supposed to go visit? Then you can see the Mum cat too. Then bring the kitten home with you.

Peony654 · 29/08/2023 21:28

That’s awful and so cruel. I’d be reporting the seller to the RSPCA.

Jagley · 29/08/2023 21:30

Kitten farmer, please do some more research.

Theraffarian · 29/08/2023 21:31

Please tell us you aren’t serious, apart from anything else 1 or 2 hours travel away is nothing to collect a pet that’s going to become a family member for hopefully the next 15 years or so . What was the set up like when you went to visit the kitten and it’s mum?

I struggle to believe there is any legitimate company that would courier a kitten anyway .

lemondust000 · 29/08/2023 21:31

Yes. I'm thinking this. She has her cats registered with the gccf. So she's genuine. Or is she? I think I need to listen to my instincts and either go myself or get one closer to home - it feels wrong

Oh lord no. I have several pedigrees and I’ve always met the breeder plus the mum and dad. And the kittens! I wouldn’t be happy any other way.

although it isn’t any guarantee as one breeder was mad as a box of frogs and the cat I got from her is a psychotic nutter…

Aren't you supposed to go visit? Then you can see the Mum cat too. Then bring the kitten home with you.

That's what I've done before

OP posts:
Aquaphant · 29/08/2023 21:33

Why wouldn't you just go get the cat yourself? I'd understand if it's coming from very far away but that seems odd. Also the lack of reviews or any community is suspicious.

user76541055773 · 29/08/2023 21:34

So you’re happy to literally just get sent a random animal, without seeing it beforehand, without seeing the condition the mother is kept it, without them doing any vetting of you beforehand?

Those poor, poor animals!

Greenfishy · 29/08/2023 21:35

Absolutely no way. That’s a place that is hell on earth for the parent cats. Please don’t support the fuckwad by giving them your money.

BCSurvivor · 29/08/2023 21:37

Forget about buying a kitten from a dodgy breeder on Facebook who lives miles away.
Cat rescue centres are overflowing with abandoned cats and kittens, why not get a rescue cat?
I can recommend Cats Protection, they are picky with rehoming their cats and kittens, who will all have been vet checked, neutered and vaccinated.
And report the kitten seller.

Changingplace · 29/08/2023 21:38

Not a chance, this is either a scam or someone who doesn’t care a jot about the welfare of the animals, don’t touch this with a barge pole.

Flipflopflopflip · 29/08/2023 21:39

Ffs are you for real?

Zippedydoodahday · 29/08/2023 21:41

It isn't hard for a breeder to register. They aren't quality checked before registering

ProjectsGalore · 29/08/2023 21:44

Pretty sure that delivering cats via courier is a very popular scam!!

NJMAd · 29/08/2023 21:47

All the obvious kitten farm red flags aside.

I'm so so sad at the thought of kitten travelling by courier?! For real?

Any 'breeder' or owner who thinks that's acceptable clearly doesn't actually give a shit about animals.

You need to check your own morals and report this kitten farmer.

My local shelter currently has over 80 kittens that need a home. There is no good reason at all for paying anyone money for a cat at the moment.

happysoul23 · 29/08/2023 22:00

This is wrong in everything level.
Don't buy from anyone who treats animals this way and please don't encourage/support people who do this

lemondust000 · 29/08/2023 22:22

You're all right as are my instincts.. this is not right. Going to steer clear

Why do you want a pure breed kitten? The rescues are full to bursting with kitties needing homes right now. I can understand some people might have a genuine passion for a particular breed, but they are few and far between and are knowledgable enough about their chosen breed to never ever even get close to a backyard breeder. I’m sure you’re a nice person who would provide a good home but I don’t think you’re passionate about a particular breed if you’ve even half-considered this awful breeder. Rescue a couple of cats from a rescue instead - you can rest easy knowing they have been fully health checked and feel warm and fuzzy that you’ve done a good deed. Good luck OP!
