Keeping cat in room overnight

Hi

I’ve had my (rescue) cat about 4 months and he’s the best thing that ever happened to me. However, he can be very loud overnight.

He has a cat flap and nips in and out but is very minimally outdoors (compared to my families cats who never seem to be in unless it’s horrendous rain). He is a lap cat and very affectionate and a very good boy.

He’s neutered and has a clean bill of health from the vet and just need to find a night time solution. I follow the tips of active play then food which lasts him a few hours sometimes but it’s not quite enough.

I have recently had to confine him to the kitchen/dining room (connected) which is where the flap is, food, water fountain and litter tray as well as some sleeping spots but if there’s anything I can do better on this I’d take tips. I don’t like locking him in the room so only do it midnight-6/7am when I’m asleep. He sleeps on my bed most of the day and evening so I do feel bad.

I am thinking of getting him a friend as think he is lonely but not just yet.

Thanks

Has he been neutered?

Not sure what the question is but it's totally fine to contain him downstairs overnight. My cat likes to walk all over your face in the night so is banished from Upstairs but is happy enough with a bowl full of food and downstairs for the night.

I have a dreadful nighttime routine! My little monster sleeps on my pillow beside me until about 4am when the zoomies and crying starts. She likes the bathroom which has the best echo! I then close her downstairs - where she has food, water, beds, toys and a catflap. She then howls and bangs the door at 6am to come back up when she sleeps soundly - often snoring😂

I have considered getting a kitten for company. But she doesn’t really like other cats and I worry they would just fight!
