Excuse me, but how does one go about 'admonishing' a bloody pet rat?

According to the book that came with our newly aquired pet rats, if they poop whilst outside of their cage, we have to 'gently admonish them' and return them to said cage until they learn a lesson

Now when I try to 'admonish' the dog, he totally ignores me (actually I think he laughs at me)

How the hell does one admonish a sodding rat!!!!

Do rats not poo in a predictable sort of way? Puppys and ferrets go within a few minutes of eating or waking up, so tis quite easy training them.

no idea, but sounds funny!! Maybe a reward chart?? Confiscate its favourite toys? they are pretty intelligent, but didn't know you could toilet-train them!!

We just make a tutting noise and return them to the cage it took about a week now they take themselves back if they need to go
