Cat dental tooth extraction

My 4 year old cat went for a health check up and vet saw inflammation of gum and recommended a tooth extraction costing £1200. Is this the going rate?

MrCat had similar last year, a canine, and it cost about £600.

That's quite a lot for a single tooth - I've just paid about £650 for one of mine to have 14 teeth out.

That's a lot for one tooth. Ring round. There's a community vet quite a drive from us but our dog gets his teeth done there because it's so much cheaper.
The prices regular vets charge are ridiculous.

That seems very high. We just had a very large tooth removed from my 30kg dog, a full tooth clean, the anaesthetic etc, bloods to check her whole system, post op meds and check ups for £600.

When my 3kg cat had a canine and a couple of smaller teeth out a few years ago it was about £280 for the same package as above.

£600 ish here for dental inspection, clean and several extractions in our 8year old last year.

I just got quoted £490 for a teeth clean and advised that extractions would be an additional cost, I was horrified.

Depends on the type of tooth and what's included in that price (bloods, fluids, antibiotics, pain relief, post operative check ups).
As routine it is commonplace to give 'worst case scenario' estimates for dental treatment because it's hard to know until the animal is asleep and you can get a really good look in there what actually needs doing.

You wag, you. I've never once been to a vets and the treatment has worked out less than an estimate. 😄

I agree dental work on cat is around the £600 mark - and it doesn't really matter how many teeth are coming out, as the main cost is the theatre, the anaesthetic and the staff. I paid this to have 6 teeth removed for my cat last year.

The Vet wrote gingivitis++ possible tooth resorption. As it stands seems to be just one tooth.

@AltitudeCheck I'm based in London. It's interesting most people seem to be quoting around half the amount that I've been quoted

My cat had a full clearance due to reabsorption, it was around £1000-£1200

@Gracewithoutend that's interesting. My quote seems around double what others are saying. I'm based in London too
