Dodgy puppy seller gumtree?

cookingmama02 · 11/07/2023 16:53

Hi I bought a puppy from a seller on gumtree the other day and the description gave the impression the seller had bought the dog and was rehoming him he is 11 weeks and has no vaccinations or nothing ( I'm getting them done on Thursday ) today I looked on gumtree and the same breed of dog is up for sale in the same place and same price £300 the description is the exact same also but comes under a different account I'm 100% sure the dog is from the same litter as mine but my question is why is the person selling the puppies one by one and claiming to be rehoming them due to not having the time seems suspicious? What does everything think they could be up to.

You have likely bought a puppy farmed dog.
I would get it to a vets asap for a check up and to suss out its true age.

What on earth possessed you to buy a living, vulnerable creature off Gumtree?!
What do you 'know'
Breed
History
Parents-did you see them?
Have there been any health tests?
Did you do any research on the breeders?
Or did you think, I fancy a puppy so I'll go to the same place I bought my last wardrobe from.

Puppy farm. Don't buy dogs from scumbags on the internet.

SquashPenguin · 11/07/2023 16:59

This is a puppy farm dog. Gumtree is notorious for it. Alarm bells should’ve been ringing when they said they were trying to rehome their 11wk old puppy that had no vaccinations.

CocoonofDavid · 11/07/2023 17:10

Did you not do even the most basic research before you decided to go out and buy a puppy? 🙄

Poor dogs are clearly from a dodgy puppy farm, and the sob story is a front.

TakeMyStrongHand · 11/07/2023 17:13

What was their stated reason for wanting to rehome him (and this new one) at 11 weeks? It's a weird way to go rather than simply selling the litter but definitely questionable.

Did you see the parents?

I hope your puppy is ok! Definitely worth a vet visit.

I don't know who you would report this to but I would do that too.

Kingsparkle · 11/07/2023 17:13

Tale as old as gumtree. Yes it will be a puppy farm. I am really surprised people still do this.

paellabella · 11/07/2023 17:15

Sorry but why would anyone buy a dog on gumtree?

QuillBill · 11/07/2023 17:17

I can't understand why you can't understand! They are selling another one because they lied to you.

My vet reckons my dog was from a puppy farm because she has issues around food. He said she had probably been removed from her mother too early. She is distrustful of food and we have to coax her into eating and have done since we got her from the RSPCA at eleven months.

RunningFromInsanity · 11/07/2023 18:03

Because if they say they are selling a litter you probably wouldn’t have bought it.
By saying they are ‘rehoming’ their puppy due to not having the time, people are much more likely to fall for it.
(Enter you)

Make sure you get decent insurance.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 11/07/2023 19:02

Puppy Farm
You don't know anything about the health of the parents or even what breed the pup actually is.
Take out insurance as you will need it

RunningJo · 12/07/2023 12:36

Yep, as others have said - puppy farm. As more people are becoming aware of puppy farms the 'breeders' are using different methods to sell, one of which is the 'can't keep my newly bought pup'

Go to the vets for a health check asap, get some wormer too as it's likely that hasn't been done.

And report the gumtree add.

Spanielsarepainless · 12/07/2023 12:44

Puppy farm.

QuillBill · 12/07/2023 12:56

There was someone on here who bought a puppy from a lovely house although she didn't get to see the mother because she was just on a lovely countryside walk with the sellers husband.

The OP went back for something and found the whole thing was a puppy farm scam and the house was an air BNB and the seller had sold a puppy every couple of hours for days.

Wolfiefan · 12/07/2023 12:59

Yep puppy farmer. Get VERY good insurance. It is unlikely to be wormed etc too. Is it microchipped? Lesson learnt. Never buy off scumtree

bunnygeek · 12/07/2023 17:03

Yup, you found the puppy farmer. Gumtree is the worst.

If you have the details of the person you bought this person from and you suspect they're using the same address you can report them to the local Council and Trading Standards.

You may be in for some monsterous vets bills.
