she is currently padding her way round the house, making sure she's sniffed out the lot! and being followed everywhere by dd

a question for all you knowledgable people- is there anyway to get her to stop going upstairs apart from getting the babygate back out? i don't mind it for today but it will be a bit of a pain in the arse

Our dogs are allowed upstairs, but we usually gate it off if we go out without them.

But, I have learned that with dogs it is very important to start as you mean to go on. So figure out your rules and stick to them from the start. It will make your life much easier in the long run.
