Anyone up? I think I'm losing her

I think this it it for my sweet bunny. She's 11.5, she was very sick this morning. The vets have given all the usually meds which I've continued to give tonight at home but she still looks miserable.

I don't know how much more intervention is helpful at this stage.

I'm fairly certain by morning she'll either have turned a corner or she'll have died.

I feel weirdly calm considering my heart is exploding.

I'm never having pets again. 💔

I'm so sorry to hear this, it is utterly awful to face death of a beloved pet.

Can you sit with her this evening?

Thinking of you 💐

mayorofcasterbridge · 25/06/2023 23:52

((Hugs)) - it's horrible. Is she eating?

HangingOver · 25/06/2023 23:55

Thank for replying 🙏🏻

The thing about buns is as a prey animal they're really happiest when left alone. Much as I want to bring her indoors and stroke her and tell her I love her that will only cause her more stress. She's best left with her bonded partner. Although I'm probably annoying them by keeping going out the check on her.

If she starts making pain noises I'll have to whisk her straight off to the 24 vet 😞💔 But she's currently just teetering on the verge of a possible turnaround over night.

So hard to know what to do though. Whatever the outcome I'll feel guilty.

I am so sorry OP it’s an utterly dreadful situation to be in, I feel your pain, I lost my dog a couple of months ago and it truly broke my heart. It does sound that she is close to the end of what I assume is quite a long life for a bunny, you must have really looked after her so well to get to that age. Being calm now is helpful, your bunny will feel safe and loved with you and that is the best we can wish for them. I truly hope she does turn a corner and recover, but if not it sounds as though you gave her a long and happy life and I hope that brings you some comfort in the days and weeks ahead Flowers

HangingOver · 25/06/2023 23:56

Is she eating?

No. Not now. She was at about 9pm and I got three syringes down her this afternoon.

Oh, I'm sorry you're in this situation. Sending hugs and a handhold, and lots of hope that your lovely bunny will pull through.

Allmyghosts · 25/06/2023 23:58

Oh no :( poor bunny, hope she turns a corner.

Thanks everyone. God, Mumsnet is a wonderful wonderful thing in times like this!

Please don't feel guilty, you've given her the best life and care and loved her.

Do you have anybody with you tonight who could hug/sit/talk to you?

Thinking of you OP, it is the worst part about having a pet you love so much.

pippapipps · 26/06/2023 00:06

I had three bunnies growing up I loved them so much and they broke my heart when they left me so I know what you're feeling and how hard it is for you now
Sending a big hug to you and your little bunny hope everything is in bunny's favour x

HangingOver · 26/06/2023 00:09

Please don't feel guilty, you've given her the best life and care and loved her

You know what, I think you're right. The fact they've both made it to more than ten years old is at least testament to my slightly insane protective love of them. Completely unrequited, natch (little freeloading fluffballs).

The mad thing is how they feel so permanent when they're in you life. I've had her through relationship breakdown, bereavement.... And then when they're sick or in pain it literally feels like a part of you is being tortured.

NoTeaNoShade · 26/06/2023 00:29

I totally get it, I lost my two cats in quick succession recently and we really had gone through it all together. You've done absolutely everything you could for your bunnies and they would tell you that themselves if they could I'm sure.

If you feel up to it, would you like to share a picture and/or talk about her? I'm hopeful she'll rally by the morning 🤗

HangingOver · 26/06/2023 00:55

I just did one last check. No pain noises and she was moving around so I'm going to leave her to rest and cross everything. I did stick my head in the hutch and give her a kiss though.

She's a mongrel kind of breed, I got her because she was the ugliest baby rabbit I'd ever seen but she's grown into quite an elegant lady. I once looked up on of the breeds she's crossed with and it said they make terrible pets which made me laugh as she was absolutely insane when she was younger. Ate a good half of her bedroom carpet and the skirting boards.

Thanks for your help everyone. Please say a little word to the god of little fluffy things for us xxxx

I’m so sorry to hear about her struggles. I don’t care what anyone says - pets are members of a family and the love you have for them is pure. They are innocent and that is so special. Keep us posted OP but sending love for your bunny.

WildImaginings · 26/06/2023 01:19

Thinking of you and sending good thoughts

SirenSays · 26/06/2023 01:22

Aww hopefully you're both getting some rest. Sending strength to your little bun 💛

DiddlyDonut · 26/06/2023 01:26

Thinking of you and your bunny tonight x

ThursdayFreedom · 26/06/2023 01:37

I hope she sleeps well tonight & is much better by the morning.

🐰 💕

justrude · 26/06/2023 01:39

Hope you can get some sleep.

caringcarer · 26/06/2023 01:53

Try to sleep and know your bunny had the best life possible. I hope she turns the corner but anything over about 8 years is good for a rabbit.

HangingOver · 26/06/2023 09:44

She's eating dandilions 💓

HopefullyHopeless · 26/06/2023 09:46

DiddlyDonut · 26/06/2023 10:35

Great news! I hope she keeps on improving :-)

Purplecatshopaholic · 26/06/2023 10:43

Aww op, it’s awful when a pet is ill. I am crossing my fingers for her. Her amazing age shows just how much she is loved and cared for.

NoTeaNoShade · 27/06/2023 08:18

How is your bunny this morning HangingOver?
