New Kitten

We adopted a new kitten today. Never had a cat before but have done as much research as I can! She is 12 weeks old today. We picked her up, she is gorgeous. Chipped, de-wormed, vaxxed etc. She is really snuggly and lovely and cuddled down with us all and currently has gone to sleep in her basket and before that used the litter tray. She hasn’t eaten or drank though and she has not made ONE sound. Is this normal?! The lady at the rescue centre said to expect lots of sound, crying, meowing etc and maybe some distress especially on the way home/this evening and to not be surprised if the crying goes on for a long time. She hasn’t made a squeak and now I’m worried. Thank you!

Not all cats are vocal, I wouldn't worry about that. Hopefully she will start eating soon once she feels secure in her new home. You must pay the kitten photo tax now 😉.

Here for the photos please😻

Well we couldn't possibly comment without a piccie!!
My boy is very vocal but my last cat wasn't at all. You will know if he isn't happy but he sounds like he is made himself at home already

I am sure you have but make sure her food and water dish are well away from her litter tray.

Thank you all! Here she is - it’s like having another baby to snuggle I must say!

Omg @Amanduh!!!!! Cute overload she is perfect

Give her time, she is in a strange place. She might be a quiet kitty, my current one squeaks, very quietly.
Please don't use clumping or clay litter, any kind that sticks together as when they groom and swallow it bits stick together and can cause a blockage in kittens and small cats.

MonumentalLentil · 24/06/2023 22:40

Leave food out overnight, she will probably investigate when you have gone to bed.

Amanduh · 24/06/2023 22:57

Have left everything out for her. She had more snuggles then tucked herself up! Thanks for all the advice.

My last kitten didn't cry when brought home. I think it was because he was too busy purring. Was cuddled and played with so didn't have anything to complain about. Also very naughty but I let him sleep in bed with me from first night so he was happy. He does have a voice and can be super load when he does want something. Give yours time. Cats don't like to go without something so I'm sure yours will find a voice when they start having real demands/ complaints.
Some cats are quite and polite some become very talkative and demanding just like people!
