Annoying dog

Our neighbours have the most annoying dog known to man. It barks constantly. All day. Everyday. It's our first summer living in this house, winter was fine. Now it's warmer weather it's just out in the back garden all day and is constantly barking and disturbing our peace!

The other issue is that around the front there is a gap in the hedge and when I open my front door it runs straight over barking at me. It got through the gap and started jumping on my toddler. The owners did the "it doesn't bite" routine but it's terrified me. They've since pit chicken wire up at their side but I'm paranoid it'll get back through. I rent so can't put up a fence (and don't want to pay for one). What else can I do to block it? I feel like big plant pots could still leave a gap....

What I would say is that you have a neighbour problem, more so than a dog problem. They sound irresponsible. Of course a dog will bark if it is left outside in this heat.
It is up to the neighbour to make sure their dog can not get out. It’s unacceptable that they are allowing their dog to come over and get in your child’s space. Maybe speak to your landlord about what extra protective measures can be put in place? I.E fencing

Thanks for this. It's one of those dogs that just barks and barks at everything - as soon as anyone/anything goes near the fence it starts and just goes on and on. The owners just tell it to "shut up". It's driving me absolutely barmy as my time enjoying the fresh air is just ruined by a loud angry dog!

No. Yappy, anxious dogs are the absolute worst. When the owner shouts SHUT UP, the silly dog just thinks they're barking too. It confirms that there is cause to bark.
Would drive me crazy.

Our neighbours have a barky dog, which barks frequently for short periods IYSWIM. Where we live is really quiet so the noise feels almost worse as it’s so incongruous. I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that I need to live on a remote Scottish island with no neighbours 🤣

It's honestly driving me insane. I can't open my door without it screeching at the top of its lungs for about 5 minutes. And repeat everytime a passerby walks past...

I think unfortunately that people give less of a shit about others these days - there are loads of threads on MN about annoying neighbours. Unless you do literally live on a deserted island or are a squillionaire and can afford to have no neighbours it’s part and parcel of many people’s lives.

If it’s barking all day, try recording it at different times, then phone the dog warden or your local council. It’s a nuisance and they should help deal with it.

It's funny I said this to my husband earlier this week - I think we are just more considerate that a lot of people... that's not meant to make me sound like some sort of angelic do-gooder but there are so many things we witness and I just think "why!!!"

I did wonder if reporting was an option but I don't know if this would just make life hell. Grrrrrr why can't they understand!
