Fish have white spot

Just spotted white spot on a couple of dds fish. I have protozin in but just read on the label can't use it if you have shrimp I read about using aquarium salt but that will kill off the plants that are doing a good job sorting out my algae problem.
/sigh
I can't get to the fish shop til saturday for advice. I've turned up the temp by a bit and will turn it up a bit more tomorrow. Is there anything else I can do - how am I going to treat it?

Take the shrimp out if you can and keep elsewhere then treat the tank, or take the infected fish out. (which ones are cheaper to replace? )

Aquarium salt will help - you can always buy more plants.

I've not got anywhere to keep them I'd rather lose the shrimp though in case the others are in the early stages of it. True about the more plants. How long would the shrimp have to stay out of the tank?

I'll go into town tomorrow and at least get the salt. that will be a start.

well why don't you just treat with protozin and risk losing the shrimp? I think that's what I'd do to be honest - white spot needs to be treated asap I think. Can't remember how long it takes but the bottle should tell you.

I think you might be right Wisteria - I'd hate to lose the lot and just end up with two shrimp!

How are the fish today Kitten?

We went to the fish shop this lunchtime (dh escaped from work to take us - kind man!) They said to use the protozin, that usually shrimp are ok with it.
Well the shrimp didnt like it when we added it - swam about madly. Tonight some of the fish are swimming about in a different pattern from normal. dd noticed one of the cherry barbs fins looked 'wounded' so I'm a bit worried.

More worried about dd really cos she was quite upset about them. One of our neighbours, who was really nice to her died today and on the face of it she was quite dismissive; knowing her she will transfer her feelings on to the fish.

flipping pets! I hope the fish make it. else I suspect they might end up in our little graveyard next to the guinea pigs!

/badkitten has visions of 10 years down the line when our front garden has been transformed into a small pet cemetery and all the local kids dare each other to go into it.
