Advice please! Cat close to birth?

Hi all, I have a 7 month old kitten who’s due to give birth imminently. I have never been in this position before so am slightly shitting it! I think I have everything set up (as well as it could be given the circumstances). She’s been acting quite odd today, incredibly affectionate, needy and has been continuously scratching in her litter tray. She was ‘humping’ my jumper earlier and is now in a deep slumber on it. We don’t know when she was impregnated but we had an ultrasound at the vets 3 weeks on Thursday, where they said it would be 2 weeks max. I’m just incredibly worried because she is so tiny and baby belly is huge. I think I’m just looking for reassurance and possibly some uplifting cat pregnancy/birth stories. Thanks guys

Prettiest Kitty I ever did see ❤️

She's beautiful 😍

lljkk · 14/05/2023 10:06

Girls are supposed to be about 10% of ginger cats. 😍

Maves · 14/05/2023 16:39

Can I just apologise for my earlier comment I hadn't realised she wasn't your car glad she's ok I will say do keep an eye on the small one 6 is a big litter and not all uncommon to lose one or two if he doesn't catch up with the others I'd think about hand feeding

Iamacatslave · 14/05/2023 16:55

Congratulations. Mummy cat and kittens are just gorgeous.

Our cat ( another stray kitten; too late for abortion) had not read any books about motherhood at all. We made her a cardboard box den to give birth in; she insisted on giving birth on my lap. Then supposedly, mother cats rarely leave the kittens. Ours watched us park the babies in the den, then she went out for a walk in the sun. Some hours later she returned, fed and cleaned them then left them to self-soothe. That was pretty much the extent of her maternal instinct, several feeds and quick lick every day , then off on her own cat career, hunting voles, lounging on the sofa, teasing dogs etc.Despite minimal maternal attention of encouragement the kittens thrived and grew up strong and healthy. There's a lesson there for MN.

I've seen two cats have 10/11 kittens each one time. Lost a few but most of them thrived.

Suffering severe kitten picture deficiency over here. 🐈

Beautiful, well done mummy kitty! OP so glad she is well - and the lovely kitties.

2bazookas, our cat was a rescue with little or no maternal instinct. She was abandoned with her kitten, and they didn't know whether she only produced the one or if the rest of the litter had died, as she was just too young. She became distressed and aggressive towards the kitten, so they were split and adopted separately.

We adopted her then. For a while she became visibly agitated if she heard a baby cry or kittens meawing on TV. She's quite settled now a year and a half later, but she's still timid and can become clingy/hissy depending. We love her and she's come a long way, but I still feel sad when I think of her becoming a mum when still a kitty and then not coping 😢

Awwww, they're all so beautiful! I'm getting serious kitten envy, and I'm also a huge ginger kitty lover 😻 How lovely that you're keeping two of them and have found great homes for the others. I hope that things are continuing to go well and you're all having a lovely time together op 🐈😺

MDParks · 16/05/2023 22:30

@Maves No worries! I understand getting angry about something you're passionate about. We're only human! I don't think the pictures do them justice, they're all bloody massive...I genuinely can't believe they fit inside her little body! They all seem to be feeding really well, and she's doing great x

Hi all, just thought I'd give a quick update. I am really shit at Mumsnet and have never actually used it before this post, soo don't know if I can individually 'like' your posts, so to speak. I do however want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the great advice, well wishes and lovely comments. As of Day 4, all babies are feeding well and thriving (fingers crossed) We 'think' there are 5 boys and 1 girl and we've decided as a family to keep the torty and tabby (1 boy, 1 girl). Their names are officially (drum roll please) Pedro and Kiwi Parkinson! We have a kitten check at our vet on Friday so fingers crossed for smooth sailing from here on out. Mum does keep bloody sitting on them tho and it panics me every time, even tho they always seem to wriggle out. Is this normal?! I'll post some new pics to satiate the kitten cravings! x

Sorry, me again! She's started coming out of the kitten box this evening and laying beside it. The logical part of me thinks it's just because she needs a fucking break! Is this also normal? I think I'm going beyond paranoid panicking now!

She probably does just need a break! She most likely instinctively knows they are doing ok and she can take a bit of time out now. They are all gorgeous congratulations ! X

mumtoboys12 · 16/05/2023 23:10

Ps- she might be hot! X

You can't "like" posts, sorry. I'd love it if MN changed that! But if you want to reply to someone specifically there's a "quote" option next to their post.

They're adorable btw. And make me want more kittens.

RichardsGear · 16/05/2023 23:23

They are GORGEOUS! Have you got a tortie one in there? From the photos it looks like you have a black one, a tabby and the rest gingers.

I bet she does need a break.

The black one is a torty we think! You can't really see her (pretty sure she's a her!) ginger splodges but they're definitely there!
