Or in the past?

My cat is 14, by far the oldest pet I've ever had.

SlartyBartFast · 17/02/2008 22:08

whispywhisp · 18/02/2008 14:03

Up until a week ago I had a dog of just over 12yrs old. Unfortunately we lost her last week.

I do have a cat of almost 14yrs old.

I had two cats of 14 until last thursday evening - now I only have 1 as my lovely cat Dizzy died.

My oldest ever cat (had to be put down a few years ago) was 17 - I'd had him longer than the kids, he'd seen me through a divorce and a new relationship, had his tale pulled by many babies - and despite the arrival of new cats since then I still expect him to appear at my feet whenever I open a tin of tuna .

Iota · 18/02/2008 17:50

sorry uptomyeyes x post

MAMAZON · 18/02/2008 17:50

we have a tortoise, he was about 40 when we got him from an old lady and we got him when i was 3.

so he is at least 64.

uptomyeyes · 18/02/2008 17:53

Hassled - I think I'm going to be like that. I walked into the sitting room today and there was a black cat sitting on the window cill. I walked straight up to it thinking it was Diz, i was sad that it wasn;t. We will go onto have other cats I know, but I don't think there will ever be one like her - she was special and she was mine, if you know what I mean.

Hassled · 18/02/2008 19:46

uptomyeyes - sorry not to have posted earlier to say I'm very sorry about Dizzy, and I know exactly what you mean.

uptomyeyes · 18/02/2008 21:41

Aaww thanks hassled. I think I may have killed off this thread though.

Also have an old tortoise, no idea how old except DH was given him when he was 10, by an old lady who had him when children were little and they had all grown up and left home. Makes him at least 50 if not 60, pobably not quite as old as Mamazon's

whispywhisp · 19/02/2008 09:31

Thanks Posey. Yes it was a very sad day last Tuesday. We'd had her since she was about 4mths old - she was a rescue puppy - found abandoned with her sister and brother. She was the best behaved dog I know. Just so sad losing animals after such a long time. She'd also seen us move house 3 times, have two children etc etc. A major part of our life now gone. I found losing her hard enough but my eldest daughter has found it even harder, being 9yrs old, she'd grown up with her.

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 19/02/2008 14:09

My cat will be 19 in April.

ruty · 19/02/2008 14:11

my beloved cat was 22 when she died.

fryalot · 19/02/2008 14:15

Can't beat the tortoises, but I think I had the oldest cat. Fluff died a couple of years ago at the grand old age of 25 (she may have been older, but she was at least 25) Dp's mum got her when he started college in 1980 and she was already fully grown then. We had to have her put to sleep in 2005
