Last night, some chaps knocked on our door saying they'd nearly run over a rabbit and it was now running around our driveway.

We rescued it and it spent the night in our conservatory...

We've been around the entire neighbourhood but found no owners. DD1 now wants to keep it... eeeek, what shall we do? I don't do rabbits, only cats. What do we need???? Or should we take it to RSPCA. Or what?

take it to the vets or call the rspca i guess/

this is how we ended up with ours. We have had it for 7 years now! We tried to take it to local sanctuary , rspca and they had no room. I think they thought it was ours and we were trying to dump it. We ended up having to put it on a waiting list for someone who takes them in until they could find a home for it. But we had to wait a week so ended up having to buy hutch etc. and then seemed silly to give it away.
However it isn't at all friendly so is just a bind to care for.
Is it friendly ?

It's a bit freaked out to be honest. But happily chomping away on apples and lettuce. It's really massive, obviously well cared for. I s'pose we'll put a notice up in the local shop etc?

Eeek - seven years!!!

i know we were told they lived for 4
Ours was massive too , it's an albino one so we couldn't leave it. Found it whilst walking the dog!
Hope you can re unite it with it's owner.
Apparantly when we tried to get it in at the recue centre she said loads of people dump rabbits so don't hold out too much hope.
P.S Lettuce isn't very good for rabbits ! Carrots , apples are and grass and hay. Hutches are very expensive so if you end up keeping it check out your local free cycle or paper for second hand one.

ooh, yes - grass, hay and pellets much better than lettuce, which can actually kill them!
easy on the apple, too.

Put a poster on the lampost and keep it in the conservatory for a bit longer?

Hi, thanks for your help. DP walked the streets but found no-one who'd lost him. His brother is visiting and he's a rabbit veteran so he warned us about the lettuce. Oops. We got some proper rabbit food from Pet shop. Seems quite happy at the mo. He's got some hay and a litter tray (?) in the conservatory and the dcs and chums have been playing with him all day. Looks like we got a new addition!
