Dog and cat

Hope someone can help with this.
My cat is now 6 and was feral when I got her, found in the straw bales at the stables, she was very young when I was “persuaded” to have her. She was a feisty and nervous little thing but took to my old dog and they used to sleep together.
I seem to be rambling here…. but my old dog died at 16 and I got my Cavapoo 3 years ago, they were not friends at first as the cat very nervous and the dog very excitable.
Anyway, 3 years later they have a friendship of sorts and the cat is more relaxed around her and sometimes sleeps on the same blanket on the settee and brushes along the dog, like cats do on your legs, quite a lot.
But, they have this little “game” between them, were suddenly the dog will decide to chase her, the cat rushes behind the settee or out the cat flap. Then the cat sometimes stalks the dog threateningly, who usually runs to me.
I’m getting to the problem now…. I’ve just had pale grey carpets fitted and saw a small, dark splash mark which I thought was me spilling coffee. Then noticed another and couldn’t understand it but thought “be more careful”.
Well yesterday I found one at the bottom of the stairs where I’d never go with a coffee cup.
I now think it’s either the dog peeing with excitement when she chases the cat, although it’s dark, not like pee….or is it possible that cats “spray” when they’re scared?
The chasing is not something I can stop as they’re friends the majority of the time and this explosive chasing happens about every month or two, so it’s over before I can gather myself. I do tell the dog “No” but 🤷‍♀️
Anyway, what do you think the small dark splash marks are, there’s been four up to now, in the last six months, they’re quite hard to get off as well?

It does sound a bit like one or other of them is releasing something in the midst of a chase. Do you have a spray you can use to get rid of it?
