Are show cocker spaniels nice natured?

Been wanting a doggo since forever and I finally now have a job where I can WFH and I've always wanted a show cocker. Anyone who has them as pets, are they well behaved and good around children? Pictures are a bonus!

Warning though for the first few weeks whilst you’re dealing with puddles, chewing, nipping (their little baby teeth are like pins!), nighttime whining etc etc you will think you’ve made a mistake. You haven’t! The just need to learn the rules and that takes a bit of time.

Didn’t have time to find this earlier - here is my darling boy. I miss him all the time.

Yeah we do 2 walks a day: one hour off lead with training and games etc (and lots of sniffing!) And one hour lead bimble walk which should take far less time but he has to smell everything on the way.

We do gundog classes and am looking at agility too.

He does spend quite a lot of time flat out though!

I’ve had two show cockers. Lost my beautiful blue roan girl in 2021 still miss her every day 😢 she was super chill except where squirrels were concerned!
Now Reggie is on the scene he is absolutely bonkers full on and crazy. Loves sniffy walks and playing mad games with my sons. So much energy which was a big shock after our old chill girl. Love cockers despite craziness

Thank you so much for spending so much time responding. All your pups are gorgeous and it only makes me want one more! I'm quite crazy myself so I'm sure another crazy fur baby won't make much of a difference in our household! X

We have a show Springer who is the most adorable, beautiful natured dog you could wish for. I know you asked about Cockers but had to chip in.

I have a sprocker and a springer, both working bred and working dogs. Bonkers, the sprocker less so. Lovely to work and train. I don't know show ones but I would say the working ones need a job to do, be that gundog training, agility, scent work etc...

Highly intelligent and trainable IF you put the work in to train from Day 1. A lot of people don't, dog starts resource guarding and ends up in a rescue. The amount of cockers currently in rescue centres across the country is frankly shameful. Please only get one if you are serious about training, that means every day for at least the first 8 months in the house, walking on a lead and recall. The resource guarding warning is especially important as once they develop it you have to manage it for the rest of their lives.

Tbh you have to train spaniels every day for the rest of their life. They love it, and they can easily forget everything if you don’t keep up with it. They’re not an easy dog by any means, but they are completely fabulous. As long as you take on board what the seasoned owners are saying

Here is my rescue show cocker. Clipped because he was in poor condition and so grooming was traumatic for him, bless him. He is the funniest little character, loves adults, dislikes children though. Definitely the most strong willed and complex of the 5 spaniels I've had but he's a doll.

I have a show cocker spaniel. She is absolutely adorable. She does like to be attached to me preferably so if I'm sat down she's on my lap or shoulder .She was a bitey little land shark as a pup but gentle as anything now and loves all other dogs and people. I love her so much.

We got a working cocker for our first family dog a year ago - she is fab. Yes she runs around and bounces off the walls in excitement most of the time but she loves everyone and is great fun. Two walks a day, one off lead and one on lead sniffy walk. Thoroughly recommend if you can give them the attention they need - my husband is retired so he does the weekday walks

Always had show cockers, never had such a stubborn crazy hairy one as the current knobhead - but love him to bits.
