Clipping

My fiance has taken over his daughters dog care - but is having great difficulty in booking the dog in for grooming - the dog is very overgrown and has matted ears - I suggested that I clip the dog until an appointment is available - fiance said he'd be very cross with me if I did it - surely it's in the dogs best interest to be able to see where it's going and to get rid of the mats on his ears which the dog rubs at?

You are correct. Book it in immediately. If it gets too bad with matting and tangles groomer will insist upon clipping back really short.

The comfort of the poor dog is a priority. It's appalling that it has been left to get in this state. Clipping her yourself is straightforward as long as you've good clippers. The groomers can tidy up in due course. Tell him it's cruel to leave it!

cut the hair a bit in that part that has it tangled, it won't hurt, you just have to look carefully where its ear begins, so as not to hurt it, this must be done soon, for the good of the dog
