Dog started scratching door at night

Appreciate any help on how we can put a stop to this.

He is a 2.5 year old working cocker. He's pretty well trained (thx ti my husband) and has always been well behaved, at night we leave him in the kitchen and h til recently didn't hear anything all night. He needs and gets well excercised.

We can't understand why this has started (although bonfire night he was left and was going manic when we. Got home, so anxiety maybe?). He's scratching at the door, can be when we just go to bed or last night it started at 4am. When we come down he's panting, excitable and won't listen. We tried putting him out, water and shouting (not great I know), nothing has worked. We even tried hot water bottle thinking he was cold! Nope!

Has anyone had and resolved this? All suggestions welcome!

Hi,we had this border collie,(course they are very reactive, oddly doesn't mind fireworks) my vet said we could do one of 2 things, sleep training like with babies,or let her sleep in our room. We used to have 2 border collies and a toy (Phalane) one died suddenly,he wouldn't stay in the utility room with the other one. Basically, have both slept in our room. However, the toy is now nearly 17, has cataracts and dementia. He's slept on the sofa for a year, but wakes up in the night confused, and we have to go and sit with him. We always had 2 dogs and mostly they kept each other company.

Thanks for your reply. I think it's going to have to be sleep training. He's such a dirty dog I could t have him upstairs! Even though we bath him (twice daily atm) he still has kids of muck grains. I just infer why this has started after so long!

You left your dog alone on bonfire night ?? What the fuck were you thinking !!!

Is there a chance your dog could be hearing mice in the house? Or something coming into the garden that is distressing them?

I had a cat when younger who began behaving oddly overnight and turns out there were mice going up the cavity wall into the loft. Solved that problem and it stopped her behaviour.

One of our dogs has twice been told to shut up barking overnight only to discover the first time someone had got into the car and the second the shed. Our other dog completely ignored these two situations but will on occasions become a bit of a pain when there is an animal in the garden (even an owl hooting can set her off)

It could be you know.we are in the country and have had mice in the past. . Although there are no signs of mice they could be in the cavity. And funny you should mention an owl, one night he was scratching there was an owl outside. I
