After losing one of my beloved moggies, I was asked if I could look after a new cat for a while - a stray that has been living outside for a long time but has nowhere to go now that it is getting cold. I am looking after her now but I need a bit of advice on temperament?
Essentially, the cat is really placid. Too placid, more than any cat I've had and I've had plenty. She can't hear that well and hardly ever seems to be 'alert' - sleeping all day and night in front of the fire, totally still and silent, never miaows or makes any sound. She won't walk anywhere for food, I bring it to her in front of the fire. Then she goes back to sleep. She likes to be stroked and carried / rocked side to side like a baby.
I guess what I'm asking is - how much is this just a placid cat and how much is unusual lethargy, possible illness, etc? She's not eating much and won't go to the kitchen to eat. She hasn't used her litter tray. It's just sleep sleep sleep sleep.
