My cat is outside in -4 c

I keep two of my three cats inside but a third white I took in after my dad died goes out at night as she gets stressed otherwise. During this cold snap I've kept her in a lot but yesterday couldnt get her in. At 2am I've gone to check and she's out there refusing to come in. I've left a cat shelter made if boxes and insulated with straw outside. Anyway, I cant get her in tonight and the real feel is - 4. She has a big fluffy coat. Everything I read says cats can get hypothermia in subzero temps, do you think she'll be ok? Will probably be able to keep her in tomorrow.

If she’s used to being an outdoors and you’ve provided options for shelter she should be ok. Could she have a favourite spot somewhere in the neighbourhood? Don’t worry, she’d come back in if she was too cold

Do be careful because when I was a child, my cat escaped outside at night when it was snowy. The little sod ran off and absolutely refused to come back in. We found him frozen to death under a bush after frantically hunting early the next morning.

I'd also be wary if it gets snowy that this can confuse cats who use scent to find their way home. I think the snow can disguise the smell?

I have no idea about indoor cats. All 3 of mine live outdoors all year round, and find warm places to sleep. It’s not something I’ve thought of.

My cats are out in all weathers. Baffles me why, but they're happy and come in when they want. One of mine was out last night in the freezing cold, came in this morning and will probably find a spot on the underfloor heating to sleep all day!

One of my cats was like this, he would just not come in, once is got old he liked being in more, lived til he was 18, so didn’t do bad.

My cat has been going out as usual in similar temperatures. When he comes in he sits on the radiator to warm up but otherwise he is sticking to his normal nighttime prowling and patrolling routine.
