Another guinea pig problem

I will try not to be too graphic
We have 2 boy guinea pigs which are brothers from the same litter. They are about 8 or 9 months old.

One is long hair (Bruno), the other one is short.
The short haired (Rollo) one is quite dominant and often chases his brother round the run and mounts him.
Today DD said there is a hard bit in the Brunos hair. Turned out the hair was solid. I tried to wash it out , poor Bruno hated it, and I ended up having to cut it out.
I realised this is a result of Rollo getting a bit too excited .
Poor Bruno won't have any hair left it this happens too much.

Is this just a teenage phase, will he grow out of it.
Is there anything i can do about it, don't want to seperate them.

When we had 2 boy gp's I put a piece of pipe in the cage/run so that the one that got humped could hide somewhere.

chankins · 30/01/2008 22:12

ours ended up fighting so much we had to keep them separate eventually.

you can buy the plastic igloos, he could hide in there...

Thanks
They don't seem to be fighting and get on most of the time. They have 2 huts in their run but they are big enough of them to get into .
I think I will get some piping for their hutch and their run.

Hi i have two males, this happened to me, it doesnt have to end in tears it just depends on how tolerant the "humpee" is of the humping, i would give the poor victim somewhere to hide before it dissolves into fights

The humpee does tolerate it, its, just what is left in its fur afterwards! It had gone rock hard (Something About Mary springs to mind) and we had to cut it out.
