What's the best way to treat and prevent? My kitten's got them.

The absolutely best way to prevent them imo is to hoover about eighteen times a day. You can get powder to put on the carpet before you hoover.

Some people swear by flea collars, but I could never get mine to wear one so they were useless for me but they might work for you.

I agree. Get down the vet ASAP for some Frontline. I missed a couple of applications on my cat before my wedding as I was so distracted. Came back from honeymoon to find the house teeming with fleas. We had to spray the whole house down and hoover endlessly. Please get going with the Frontline as soon as you can!
