Are basset hounds good with kids?

Hi!
We are thinking about getting a basset hound in the new year and wondered if they are a good choice with young kids? 2year old and 7 year old?
Thanks!

They are stubborn and can be hard to train so would be hard work with young kids.

Not what you asked but, have you ever smelled one?!! They smell horrific , and they have a type of braying bark that sounds like a tug boat. Lovely dogs but my god the fucking smell ! Your house will always and forever smell of dog and you will never ever get rid of it as long as you have the dog. I know a few!

They really do stink. I knew a woman who had two. Beautiful dogs but even stroking them left your hands honking.

Thanks for the advice everyone, we had an English bulldog for 11 years so we're familiar with the dog smell unfortunately 😂

No! It’s not just a ‘dog smell’ . I used to have an 11 stone ddb who used to stink, But a basset hound/ hound smell is something else entirely😁 I cannot stress this enough🤣

not trying to put you off but go in with your eyes ( and nose ) open.

Don't they have some kind of skin condition that causes it? You could smell the ones I knew even when you walked past them outside.

It is an interesting choice of breed. What attracts you to them?

PIL have bassets and foster them. They really do stink and are prone to issues with their ears. They are also stubborn and don't like walking. One of theirs likes to cuddle up to DS none of the others have. Not what I would consider a family dog tbh.

I love Bassett Hounds and they say that once you have owned one you either stay with that breed for life or you say Never again.
They are characters thats for sure!
Having owned one I would say they are not suitable to be around young children, due to their stubborness and iritability.

They are stubborn, not known for bonding with children and have the potential to be constant barkers. Look fantastic though!
