shih tzu's

We're looking at getting a shih tzu and wondered if anyone had any advice regarding them and also if they knew of any reputable breeders (pref in Midlands area). We have a 4 yr old dd and an average size garden and house. I am a SAHM so there is no question of it being left on its own for long periods of time. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had a Shih Tzu for 15 years. They are lovely dogs but quite high maintenance. If you leave the coat long it mats very quickly and needs grooming daily. So unless you plan to show, then keep it short. I mist have spent hours working my way through terrible mats.
Eyes and face need cleaning daily cos they have a short nose and the folds there can get yucky and infected - mainly in older dogs.
But they are gorgeous pets. Not wonderfully eay to train as all Shih Tzu's believe they are the Emperor of the house hold
