My goldie had this, I ran out of the specail shampoo the vet gives you and so had to use next best thing, herbal essences and it worked a treat, regular bathing about once evry 2 months.

Sazjaz,

Whatever you do, DO NOT put diesel oil on your dog. It could seriously damage their skin and poison them! Best leave it to the vet to give a suggestionion of what to use.

I agree with Supastar, let the vet decide. I would take both dogs to the vets, especially as one has been on treatment and is still not better. Mange is caused by a mite and sometimes needs alot of treatment to break the life cycle. As you have 2 dogs they could be re- infecting each other. Best to get them both treated at the same time.

Really both dogs should have been treated at the same time if it was mange in one of them as it is contagious. The hair can take a while to grow, but if there are not signs of it at least starting to get a fuzzy layer after 6 weeks or so the vet should take a look and may check out why this is the case (underactive thyroid etc). There are no washes or creams that will make hair grow, though some "medications" may be appropriate for other reasons - like dry hair may be helped by an omega-3 based shampoo that the vet could give you if necessary.
Diesel oil = NO!

There are a couple of different types of mange which require different approaches to treatment but regardless of the type your dogs need to see the vet again.

And goodness no, don't put diesel oil on them!

In the meantime you can add evening primrose oil capsules to their food to help provide essential fatty acids which are important when skin has been damaged. But they will not help the underlying problem so do see your vet again.
