Kittens were spayed on Wednesday, seemed to be leaving stitches well alone but when I checked this morning one had lost 2 out of 3 outer stitches! called vet and they said had to put the collars on them both straight away till stitches are out on SATURDAY! poor things - they are so miserable 4 hours in and look so uncomfy, they keep looking at me in bewilderment! someone tell me I'm not putting them through an awful exp Saturday seems a LONG way off...

They don't enjoy them, but they do get used to them. The alternative is far more stressful if they do get the stitches out and need a resuture - and even then they still have to leave the restitch sutures alone. Tis best to just let them have a few days of stress and then it will all be over and done with. Sorry [insert hug for you and kittens]

One of my cats took out all her stitches in 5 minutes, the other didnt touch hers. It is sad but it's only a few days. You might have to feed them with a spoon or hold a small bowl up for them to eat from, also they are going to get their shit on the collars...sorry

thanks for the posts - they can reach their food provided it is in the right shaped plate - they have just enjoyed some roast chicken. but they are so subdued! you are right, the alternative is worse! feel so bad for kitten whose stiches are fine and dandy and has shown NO interest in them being made to wear one too!

not sure Tilly (the one who lost stitches) bit them out even, they were playing madly for about an hour in the middle of the night, think that may have been a factor.

do I have to keep the collars on till stitches come out on Sat?
