I have a cocker spaniel 8 months old, we’ve just moved to another home that has a garden, for some reason he will not go to the toilet in the garden at all. He will hold it and hold it until he is walked. The heat round here is insane so not really many walking opportunities! Does anyone have any tips to help him go to the toilet in the garden? Is there sprays you can get that will attract him to wee in there?! ( we back onto a huge field where he sees lots of dogs so I’m wondering if this is why he holds it so he can get out and mark his scent!?)

How are you both getting on now @Phillpill?

If you think it's scent marking that may help break the cycle to getting him to use the garden, so you know anyone that can bring their dog to your garden to allow it to use it to tiddle? Anything is worth a shot at breaking a habit.

@PritiPatelsMaker still the same! He whines to go, we sat for over 2 hours with him he still wouldn’t go! Had to give in and take him out.
@Raindancer411 yep, his brother has been here done all of that, normally on a walk he scents over wherever his brother goes outside, but in the garden he doesn’t care less!

There are posts you can buy that supposedly encourage them to pee in the garden, but apparently they absolutely stink 🤣

I'd ask MNHQ to move this over to the Doghouse if you're still struggling. Lots of experience dog-owning MNers in there Wink

@PritiPatelsMaker thank you! I didn’t know you could do that

@sunsetsandsandybeaches ill try anything!!
