We lost our cat last year, sadly she had to be put to sleep. We'd had her a long time. It's taken me until now to finally accept she has gone and we have decided to give another needy cat a good home.
Two weeks ago we went to the RSPCA to see what cats were in need and everything there was either reserved or only suitable for children 10+. Our children are too young. There was one totally adorable cat but another couple got there before us.
We went back today and again the same thing happened. There was one gorgeous cat but he was undergoing vet treatment so wasn't available for re-homing as yet.
I phoned the Cat Protection about half an hour ago and they said they would do a home visit first then we could visit the cats. She said a lady would call u next week to arrange an appointment. The phone rang just now and there is someone on their way in 10 mintes to do a check.
I am so excited. Wish me luck although we shouldn't have any problems as we live in an ideal place and have a cat flap in place already.

Remember to say that you will always keep the cat shut in at night and provide it with a litter tray for those periods.

Good luck

(I used to be a homechecker)

Well that's that done. All happened very quickly and I'm pleased to say that we have the all clear . Now just have to arrange to view the cats and make a choice - or as the lady says see which cat chooses us!!

My cat came from the cat protection rescue charity as well I've now had him 11 years. The lady was right mine definitely choose me I think he knew a big softy when he saw one. At the moment his laying across my arm as he feels left out when I'm on mumsnet . I hope everything went well and you found one that you liked or should I say one that liked you .

We have a new addition to the family!! Her name is Sasha (even though the woman we got her from insisted she was Asha - the website says Asha too but all the paper work we have says Sasha). We have decided to stay with the S and she's responding quite happily to it.
We have ended up with a cat totally different to what we had in our heads. But we are softies. She is 9 years old almost 10 (we didn't intend on getting an older cat but hey-ho that's the way it's gone) and she is a tortoiseshell (I pictured us getting a black and white). She has been at the Cat Protection for nine months, what with her being an older cat and such a chub we knew that not many people would want to re-home her, so we did!
DH called her barrell when we saw her as she is a right old fat thing. The photo on the link I've put here must have been taken a while ago as she looks quite slim on it. When she gets less timid I shall take a photo of her and show you just how fat she really is .
We are all really happy with her and feel like we have done something really good today by giving a homeless cat a loving home.

Here she is:
