Travelling in the car with puppy

Hello,

I'm collecting my Cavapoo puppy in a few weeks but unsure of how to travel in the car with him? Not just for the first journey but whenever we're in the car really. Do you think a crate in the boot is best or some sort of dog seatbelt perhaps? Any suggestions welcome! Many thanks :)

We got a folding crate that sat on the back seat. Means it’s enclosed for the puppy, they can lie down and we could sit next to it to check they were OK. I’ve seen crates in the boot of cars but we aren’t able to get one fitted so we hold ours on with the seatbelts.

Dog seat belts are considered less safe than crates and need a harness to work so better once you have them home.

My girl comes in the car a lot with me. I only have a two seater so I have a clip that attaches to the headrest with a belt on it and I attach her to it by her harness. When she was tiny I had a puppy booster seat which was great, then gravitated to the belt once she got too big for the booster

As long as he's secured (which he must be by law) then it's really a matter of preference.

My beagle rides shotgun in a seatbelt and harness, with the airbag switched off for safety Blush

Morning, we have a 14 week old lab puppy. Initially I popped him in the boot but he seemed so small in there and I couldn’t see what he was doing and really missed my boot space as my back seat turned into a dumping ground. I have now done like other posters and got him a ‘seatbelt’ that clips on to his harness/ collar and he resides shotgun with me (car seat cover a must) and he’s great. It’s nice to be able to give a stroke to reassure him also.
good luck! We are in the sleep deprivation stage, it’s hard….. really hard…..
