Only we had a visit from a Tom last night (the house stinks) which is what prompted me to ring the vet to make an appointment to have my girls done next Tuesday.

Then it occured to me, what if Rizzo is already pregnant (she's the type).
What does the op' involve? Do they just tie the tubes or do they take out the uterus?

If the former, could the babies still grow inside her?

They're just 7 months old btw.

As they whip the entire contents out that would deal with it
They do not tie the tubes in cats you know... they do a full hysterectomy

I did work experience with a vet once upon a time and they just take the whole lot out. Couple of times the cat was already pregnant though at early stages and it just gets binned with the rest of it. So won't make a difference if having it done this early. Bit gorey really

my friend had her cat done and didn't realise she was pregnant and the vets aborted the pregnancy without speaking to her first and she was devastated especially when they charged her for it, so if you think she might be i would mention it to them first.

Ahhhh I can imagine manky. I'm having to force myself to be brave and grown up and do 'the right thing' by having them done, but I feel so sorry for them.

Still ..

Yep it's pretty much a hysterectomy and abortion. personally, I know it'd be the right thing to do, not to add even more cats to the overpopulation, but I don't think I could give the go-ahead. would feel to guilty I think!

Would it be possible for you to catch the tom and get him neutered as well? The vet would probably discount it seeing as he isn't your cat and at least he wouldn't be getting anymore females pregnant.

My cat was pregnant (i didn't know) when she was spayed and the vet didn't ring to check this was ok. Maybe he didn't know either until he opened her up as he said she wasn't very far gone. Tbh I was quite relieved not to have to bring up a litter of kittens.
