Possible cancer

I recently adopted an 11 year old Labrador. She is the sweetest natured dog I’ve had. She became part of the family immediately and I love her to bits. Took her to the vet yesterday for a wellness check and they found multiple growths. Problem is the vet doesn’t want to put her under general anaesthetic given her age and the fact she’s morbidly obese. She should weigh under 35kg she weighs 44. We are walking her and changing diet in order to help her lose a bit of weight. We were basically told it’s a case of watchful waiting, if it’s cancer the growths will grow.
We’ve only had her a few weeks but it’s like she’s always been here. I’m tearing up at the thought of losing her so soon
