What age Herman's Tortoise ?

First time tortoise to be owners. I have experience in care as we have a tortoise in work. We have a tortoise set up all ready and contacted our local reptile shop to arrange getting a tortoise. They have the hermann breed (we're looking for a hermann or a spur thighed) however they're 3 years old. Is this too old for a family tortoise?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure why you are asking, but given it could easily live for another 70-80 years then it seems a perfectly reasonable age for a "family tortoise"!

Tortoises outlive people. They can live over 100 years. A 3-year-old is practically a baby

Yes, sorry I haven't typed my question correctly. I was wondering if the tortoise would adjust to being handled - not too often, or whether it would cause stress now at the older age.

I've just told DH my question and we have had a laugh 😆 🤪

We got ours at the age of 4. He is amazing and not shy at all, but we adopted him from a family. Ours comes out whenever he hears people because he knows he'll get food Grin and eats from your hand (although his beak bites can hurt!)
