My daughter already has a land snail, absolute bruiser! Fits on the palm of my hand.
Well I got jealous and decided I would also like a slimy companion.
She's given me her old tank which I have given a good clean.
I have the soil stuff , moss, heat pads, food and thermometer.
I've spoken to a specialist reptile shop who breed them and they have a beautiful albino for sale.
I've already named it Luna
I've got a book which I've borrowed off daughter, she's had hers about 4 years so knows quite a bit about them and the reptile shop said any problems or questions call or email.
Any other snail owner about? I collect it on Friday. Sorry called it it as snails have both sex organs.

We used to have 2. They were interesting and I found them quite cute but I'll admit, I don't miss having to crush and freeze all the eggs. I used to love watching them eat.

Did they mate often? I read that they are solitary critters?
I would happily get a companion for Luna , but don't want a snail farm

I had one - Michelle - which I passed on to friends when I left the UK - 'she' was/is a lovely thing - did a lot of hibernating though, didn't see much of 'her' from November to April. Make sure yours has some cuttlefish as they need calcium. Mine seemed to like being held, and gentle showers under the tap. They can get very large - I had to make a new home for mine out of a plastic storage box, as I couldn't find a proper tank that was spacious enough. Very rewarding pets that don't take much effort to look after.

Found a photo of Michelle, on my friend's hand - see what I mean by 'large'? :)

They did lay up to a couple of hundred eggs at a time and it felt often... Maybe once a monthish. They don't even need a mate to lay eggs, they can self fertilise (although that's not as common) I used to make sure I checked the soil about twice a week to avoid missing any eggs. Thankfully, I never had any clutches hatch, I think it would have been hard to crush Little tiny babies. There is some good, informative groups about giant snail keeping on Facebook.
