How Long is too long ? Rescue Cat gone Missing : - (

I've taken on 2 rescue cats who are absolutely gorgeous. Both are affectionate, but one is slightly timid & tends to hide during the day.

Yesterday he went out & after 2.5 hours (I timed him) he came back & slept in the airing cupboard.

Much later, when still light, he went out again, but still hasn't returned, so he's been out now for over 24 hours. He's neutered, so I wouldn't have thought he'd wonder too far> I'm assuming they've settled because the little girl cat (both are about 4 yo) just followed me round the garden & likes being inside with us.

Is it normal for a new boy cat to stay out for so long ?

How long had they been with you before you started to let them out?

Time to put some notices about the place though I think just in case he has adopted someone else in the meantime? It will not do any harm. Is he microchipped?

Hope he comes back soon

Just over 2 weeks - I'm a bit embarrased to say he appeared about 8pm...from our spare bedroom goodness knows where he had hidden himself.

We've had a cuddle & he went out again...I think he's a prowler, maybe working out his territory, although he is very wary of noises.

Yes, microchipped, no collars though.

you need to check sheds... if it has been windy, door may have opened cat gone in ... someone may not have known and shut the door...

hope he returns soon

I had a cat that would bugger off til I was sure she was dead, and then come back. She disappeared for weeks once and we were moving house, my MIL went round to our old house for the last time to check it was clean and who decided to wander in the back garden??

He disappeared last year too, for a month, then just appeared. I was sure he was dead this time though, I even thought about removing him from the pet insurance just 2 days before he came back

quite normal for cats to disappear for many hours (not days) at a time. We frequently think we have lost our (spayed female) cat only to find she is sleeping soundly on top of a wardrobe or is locked in a cupboard. (Found her last night when I opened the cupboard under the sink to take out the washing powder.

Yes, all back safe, he came in again about 11pm, so now the cat flap is locked until tomorrow morning.

Goodness knows where he was hiding upstairs.
