Help me with dog hair

We adopted our second dog three months ago and he sheds so much, I am starting to lose my mind. It didn’t bother me at the beginning as I was in that new dog mum phase but now I need to get serious. Our first dog is a brindle staffie so never really sheds but our new dog is a Greek sheppard/ Pyrenees mountain dog and by god does he shed! It’s everywhere, I even found some on my plates which I think is coming from the tea towels which is probably coming from the wash.

I’m brushing him a few times a week and he got his first professional groom about one month ago. With laundry, im using white vinegar to get rid of the hair which sort of works but not on everything.

How do people minimize the shedding and how do you stop it taking over your house?

Furminator
Silicone floor brush/furniture brush
Robo- hoover

What does a furminator actually do? Does it cut hair or just get rid of the excess? I don’t want to make him bald lol!

They're a cross between a comb and a stripper - they really get to the dense fluffy undercoat that other brushes struggle with

Not sure a furminator is a good idea on a Pyrenean cross. Daily brushing outside. Maybe buy a blaster too. Decent hoover. Turning a blind eye!!

Why is that Wolfie? Carding is specifically used in double coated breeds and those with thick under coats where the build up can become uncomfortable

Because of the way it can damage a coat.

Only if used incorrectly. It's a tool like any other tool

A weekly good brush with a rake type comb.
I was advised by a groomer to avoid a furminator on my GSD X. Hoover daily and don’t let them on the furniture.
Tumble drier gets fur off most things

We have a breed with a similar coat and I don’t like the furminator either as I’ve seen some ruined coats.

So far we groom them as much as possible. My preference is to part the hair and use a comb to tease out the undercoat and then use an undercoat rake once the worst is out. I then go over the top with a normal brush.

I also use a blaster to get rid of the compacted fur under the top coat.
You can also get a deshedding shampoo which is supposed to help.

Otherwise it really is a case of cleaning constantly. We Hoover daily and I have a rubber brush for when I can’t be bothered to get it out again.
I have no carpets or soft furnishings at all downstairs. The dogs aren’t allowed upstairs much so that helps.

Tumble dryer definitely helps re clothes. Lint rollers for the rest.

Plastic broom/wiper to rake fur up from the carpet and then hoover after (everyday).

Regular brushing outside (great for birds nests)

Ours is banned from certain bits of the house eg. Bedrooms/upstairs

He's a big softie though and love him. Despite all the above when you give him a cuddle you will still come away looking like you have a fur coat on Grin

Try Vamoosh cleaner in your washing machine to clear out any accumulated hairs, and if you can rinse out your condenser from the tumble dryer.
If you are washing dog towels / bedding use a horse blanket bag like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353539437511
Regular brushing of the dog and regular vacuuming. Lived with a golden retriever - floating hair was just another seasoning in our house 🤮

It’s not a great tool for lots of breeds.
