7 month puppy still not house trained

I have to clean constantly, come home from work and clean. My 2yr old dog and 11yr old cat get no attention as everything revolves around the puppy.

She cries and whistles in her crate for hours, she wees/pops on her mats mostly but has had a few accidents where she shouldn’t

My new laminate is coming up because of her peeing constantly in the kitchen which I likely have to replace soon.

She is super hyper, jumps at me with muddy paws in the park, I tell her no she does it again!
Jumps at the door, jumps at people
Sometimes doesn’t bother go outside because he can just do it inside

I live in a flat on the ground floor no garden.

I don’t want to give her up, she has her funny moments but I need help training

What is your routine for pup?

Elieza · 30/11/2021 20:43

I’m thinking it is probably best to give her up.

When you mention you’re at work and then the pup cries for hours in her crate, I’m jumping to the conclusion you don’t have the time for a pup and she’s crated for many hours a day in an attempt to stop her toileting. That you’ve not been around enough to teach her what to do and that you didn’t expect her to be such a handful.

Do you work every day, how long for. Do you have a dog walker during the day for the two dogs? I hope so.

Janeandjohnny · 30/11/2021 20:46

How long is she crated for?
How can she be urinating on laminate? Is she not supervised?
If access to outside for toileting is needed what do you do/where does she go?

NotKnowingArseFromElbow · 30/11/2021 20:59

Poor dog. Yes rehome him

Wolfiefan · 30/11/2021 21:00

Sounds like you just haven’t toilet trained in any way.

SmolCat · 30/11/2021 21:13

She cries and whistles in her crate for hours
Then she’s not crate trained; you’re just shutting her in a crate.

Get a good, recommended by word of mouth 1:1 trainer round to your home ASAP.

Why is the dog in a crate for hours? Where do they go for the toilet if you've not got a garden?

Totalwasteofpaper · 30/11/2021 21:32

You should give her up it sounds like you don’t have the time to commit to training or to give the attention she needs.

She shouldn’t be in a crate whining and crying for hours Sad

This group Dog Training Advice and Support helped me massively with training our puppy - www.facebook.com/groups/374160792599484/?ref=share

Saying "no" doesn't really mean anything to a puppy. They jump up, human gives them attention and talks to them - even saying no is attention to a puppy, & they tend to see all attention as good! We trained ours by ignoring the unwanted behaviour and rewarding the good behaviour. He now knows he has to sit to get attention when meeting people or to get attention from us.

You can't leave a puppy alone for hours in a crate whining - you'll create separation anxiety. How long is she left for?

Pups can't hold their bladder or bowels for as long as adult dogs. It sounds like you need to take a step back and start taking pup out regularly - say every hour. Once you have a good pattern of no accidents indoors you can gradually increase the time between toilet trips. Never punish toileting inside - they'll just go somewhere you can't see like behind the sofa, as they won't associate being told off with toileting inside, they'll associate it with toileting where you can see.

OldWivesTale · 30/11/2021 21:41

Please don't tell me you leave her in a crate whilst you go to work. If so, please rehome her.

NotKnowingArseFromElbow · 30/11/2021 22:24

In the flat...
bunnygeek · 01/12/2021 12:42

She hasn't been toilet trained properly, nor crate trained, and may well not be getting enough exercise and mental stimulation :(

You'll either need to go back to square one with the training, get in dog walkers when you're at work, basically completely change your current routine as it's not working, or rehome her to someone with more time to put in the training she so desperately needs :*(

Poor dog

Elieza · 03/12/2021 16:17

So OP are you going to come back to the thread and post an update on what you plan to do?

Or did you not like what the advice was and are you still keeping the poor dog caged most of the day?

If so please give it up. It’s cruel. It can be rehomed (you could probably lay sell it to a nice family who have more time) and you can go back to a normal life.

I hope you have a dog walker for the other dog. Sigh.
