They have told me I have to seperate them!

He was humping his sister but they are only 13 weeks old so too young to be neutered! I have to wait till the are 5 and a half months before I can do that!

So now i need to go out and buy another bloody cage to keep them apart for 2 months!!

Kitty, do you ever wish you'd never bothered with a rabbit in the first place?

onepieceoflollipop · 05/12/2007 12:23

Rabbit breeder is a real idiot. Obviously wanted rid of them. The phrase "at it like rabbits" or various less polite versions should have given you a clue. It's scary how quick they can breed, and all rabbits - male and female can be quite interested in humping!!

I had 2 female rabbits and one was always on top of the other. I even went to the vet to demand they check again she wasn't a boy - she wasn't! I didn't mind at all what they got up to in the privacy of their own cage it was more babies that bothered me.

The breeder is a professional, reputable one, a member of some rabbit breeder association. They are not just rabbits from the loot or 'accidents' some owner wants to get rid of so i listened to them.

They seemed fine that they wouldnt breed before they were neutred and i thought they would know best iykwim.

Try Freecycle too

wannaBe · 05/12/2007 12:35

technically the breeder is correct but what he omitted to tellyou was that they would have to be newtered and could breed before then.

what happened to the other rabbit? did he have to be put to sleep? and did you get your money back?

KittyLetteItSnow · 05/12/2007 12:56

Francis is gone, yes. I kept phoning daily and he never started to eat by himself. Pets at home picked him up on the saturday and said they would continue his care. I did get my money back and once he left the vets I decided not to ring again as I had made the descision to return him and everytime I phoned them i would cry

Hate to tell you but it is not impossible the female is already pregnant....time will tell or ask your vet to spey her early (asap). I'm not why they wait so long in rabbits - we do them from about 3 months old at our place.

KittyLetteItSnow · 05/12/2007 17:50

Oh really?

Jeezus,

will they be 'OK' if she as - as they are brother and sister? The babies I mean?

Ill have to take her in about 4 weeks after theyve been seperated.

How do the tell if she is?

Palpation of the abdomen or ultrasound - but you'll probably pay ££ for an ultrasound. Chances are IF she is preg that the babies would be fine but only time would tell on that one. I would borrow a good book or two from the library about it all, or hunt online for some reliable sites. It is only an if, but they certainly can be sexually mature by 3 months old. Fingers crossed yours are not as mature as that just yet and no more baby rabbits coming your way.
