Help with cutting guinea pigs claws!

What do you cut them with and how do you go about doing it?
His claws have got a bit long and need cutting. He is not an aggressive animal, he is currently sitting on my shoulder.

On another note..............
Due to the horrendous winds last night his hutch was blown over - luckily he wasn't in it, but I need to know where I can get a good reasonably priced hutch, ideally big enough for a second pig or a bunny.

I use some clippers that I bought from Pets at Home. If the claws are light coloured you need to have a close look and see where the 'quick' is as if you cut that it hurts and bleeds a lot !I always err on the side of caution and give a reasonable margin for error as it's not nice for the guinea pig if you get it wrong. If they have dark claws it's a lot more difficult - one of mine has black claws and I tend to use the bend in his claws as a guide to not cutting the quick. Alternately let the vet do them first time and then you can see how short they can be cut without causing a problem. HTH

Thanks, will stop off at the pet shop tomorrow and get some clippers. Will also try to get an appt at the vet. He has some light and some dark claws.
Poor thing looks like he's got a sore pad on his foot - it's looking a little red

Check with the vet you call if they do nurse clinics where they cut the nails for a much cheaper price than a full vet fee. They are easy to do if the quick is visible - the pink bit of the nail - cut a couple of millimeters infront of this area. If the nails are pigmented though you will not be able to see this and then it is a bit of a guesstime and better to get someone to show you for sure - or every time!!
