What are they like as pets? Are they good with small children? I have a cat, if we got pups would they kill her when they're adults? What are they like to house train? Can they be let off the lead when out walking? Do they shed much hair?

I've never ever heard of a greyhound being aggressive, they are usually very well socialised as they have been brought up mixing with other dogs, and going to races where they meet countless people.
I don't know what you mean about psychological problems?

here is a good page with plenty of info on re-homing ex-racers:

our dog is a whippet cross and she FAB with the children. she'd the most obidient(sp??) dog I've ever know and really bloody clever, for example, we don't let her upstairs so she'd wait until we went out the go upstairs and make herself comfy on our bed. Whne she heard the car or foot steps on the drive she'd run back downstairs and get in her bed....if we ever called her to come upstairs she'd just stand at the bottom of the stairs because she knew she wasn't allowed and was probably trying to trick us into thinking she never went upstairs.
See, really clever!

Doesn't like other dogs but that sonly because she was attacked a few times.

She drives me mad with her molting hair though. I've never known a dog like it, stroke her once and you'll have a pile of hair on the floor (she not clever enough to remove the hair off our bed though which is how I discovered her little trick)

Went on holiday two years running when the children were small with someone who had two whippets. Beautiful, gentle dogs, fantastic with little children, needed hardly any exercise, but did chase cats I'm afraid. Very well!
If I had a dog, I'd have a grey whippet.
