my cat has pulled his claw out

I found out yesterday that my cat had a smelly paw, an awful infected smell,yuk. I took him to the vet this morning and he said that my poor fur baby has pulled out a claw and might need an operation to scrape out the nail bed.
has anyone had this with their cat? what is the likelyhood of his claw growing back, i can't find any proper info on the internet.

ours cats lost claws, they didnt have to have anything scraped though?
Cant they just give her some anti-bs or something to clear the infection?

he had an anti biotic, ive got to bathe his paw in salty water and take him back next week for a check up.

the vet said the operation was only a possibility depending on how badly damaged the root of the nail is, it happened last week and i noticed blood on the bedsheets but thought he just has a cut from a fight so i dont know if the infection is really bad or not.
typical tom cat, i only know something is badly wrong when he starts to smell like rotting meat

hope he is better soon

Our last dog tore out a claw, it regrew. The vet told us it might or might not depending how deeply it had been damaged. I think you'll just have to wait and see.
