Puppy prices

I was told by many a person that during lockdown the prices for puppies have inflated due to demand but will go back down after people start going back to work. Apparently there will be an influx of puppies/young dogs in homes too.

We are in the market for one but I’m finding them to still be extremely expensive. Do you think prices will significantly reduce or not?

Watching with interest as keen to get another lab but refusing to pay £3000 for one when our current (long pedigree of ftc) was £650!

@Lanique We would like a lab too and have been told the last one in a pedigree litter is 2,500. Unfortunately, we can’t go rescue as our child is too young for them to consider us.

I have heard that the rescue Wild at Heart takes a more case by case attitude to rescue.

I would wait until after the summer, there's always a big demand for dogs during the summer holidays, and that was pre-pandemic.

Is your youngest in school yet? Puppies and small children are really stressful, one of the reasons that rescues often won't rehome with the under 5's.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a while OP and puppies are consistently going for £4K, so I would be surprised if they drop down much more than £2.5k even after the summer.

For us it was less about the cost and more about not wanting a puppy from a breeder who was just looking to cash in and breed for money given the crazy prices. Luckily we found one through word of mouth as it’s a bit of a minefield.

@bunnygeek Shes 6 and incredibly good with dogs/animals in general so she wouldn’t be an issue but we are now thinking of waiting till next summer holidays as my husband is a teacher and I don’t work during august. That way we can get the pup used to the home with us without suddenly all going out to work/school etc.

@Lou573 That’s what I’m hoping to do too.
Our BIL and SIL bought a dog last summer and one of the first things they said was “were going to breed her as puppies go for 3k” and I just thought “how disgusting.” She’s not a cash cow for goodness sake. Poor thing.
