Dog poorly insurance won't cover

Hi

Has anyone got any advice, my friend has just taken on a lovely 8 year old dog, he wasn't a rescue but came from an elderly neighbour who could no longer look after him after going into care.

He's had the dog for ten days, and the poor dog has since become extremely ill and needs urgent treatment (no pre existing conditions).

As he's had the insurance for less than 2 weeks he is not covered at all.

Vets have said tests needed / potential treatment is going to amount to £1000's which he is not currently in a position to pay.

He is not on any benefits and works full time on a modest wage. Does anyone have any knowledge on if there is anywhere that may be able to help with vet bills.

Vets may be prepared to offer a payment plan. It’s standard for the insurance not to pay out for two weeks. That’s why new pups come with insurance from the breeders.

Thanks @Wolfiefan yes suppose worth asking at the vets. Feel so sorry for the poor little dog and my friend.

Possibly ask the neighbour who previously owned him if their insurance will cover

Could ask the PDSA?

@pigeonhole thank you, unfortunately they've already tried this. But thanks!

Is it Pet Plan? I think they offer the first 2 weeks free. My DD had an issue with her dog during the first 2 weeks and after a lot of hassle they paid out.

@thenightsky I'm not sure I will check with him, thanks so much.
