Any highly-specific allergy tests that could help us choose a dog breed?

DP has a range of allergies and has had reactions when we've stayed with friends who had dogs (and/or cats). Our children, however, are dog crazy and desperate. We've explained that it wouldn't be fair to their dad to make him live with an animal he's allergic too. If we really could find one that didn't cause reactions, though, we'd love to get one.

I know there are no 100% hypoallergenic dogs, though some breeds tend to be easier to tolerate. But we don't want to get into the situation where we end up with a dog that makes DP miserable.

I've heard that there might be some very specific allergy tests that could indicate if someone is allergic to males vs female dogs, and possibly even to specific breeds but I haven't found any info.

Has anyone tried these and could share experience?
