Hutches - Inside vs outside? In a conservatory?
One rabbit, what size hutch?
Will one get lonely?
How long do they live?
What do you do when you go away?

I have read the feeding looking after, cleaning stuff.

What have I done, one little word 'yes' and now this.

Inside or outside hutch is fine. Make sure if outside it is well insulated, fox proof and plenty of bedding to burrow into. Personally I would prefer a shed or the like to keep the hutch in though. Conservatory is ok provided it does not get too hot in the summer. You could also look at one of the house rabbit websites too for more info about that possibility. It is getting a lot more popular to have them free roaming for much of the time in the house. They litter train very well and if nothing else consider a litter tray in the hutch to help with hutch cleanliness. You should also make sure you get a run for the garden, or that you have a rabbit proof garden with no toxic plants in it....run probably easier!!

One rabbit will usually be happy enough alone so don't feel pressurised to get more than one. The risk in getting more than one is you get one of each sex by accident - assuming you get young rabbits it can be quite hard to sex them until they are a bit older. Not all rabbits will get along with each other either, and they can fall out as they grow up, even if brought up together, though starting together young is the best plan if you do want more than one.

Life span - depends on the breed to a degree. Average 6 years, do see them older than that though.

When you go away ask a good friend to take them or find a pet sitting service to have them for you. Your local pet shop may know of such places.

ours is outside, in a hutch thats surrounded by a wire enclosure thingy
we have this insulated thingy that goes round the hutch in the winter
thats all i know
the rest of the people feed, change, clean out

Denny185 · 20/11/2007 19:19

In a pie would be good

XAliceInWonderlandX · 20/11/2007 19:19

hasten to add
the rabbit is in a kind of giant hamster cage
not lollying on the sofa
well he does sometimes

they are a good pet for young children

dd used to read stories to her first rabbit

is it a dwarf rabbit because they stay small

good luck

Wotzupnow · 20/11/2007 19:20

beautifulgirls, thank you.

No toxic plants, there was something on MN about ivy being toxic, I have loads, will have to think about that.

I do have a nice shed, needs a clear out, very warm and dry. Maybe that would be best. I don't think the cats would like a roaming rabbit around the house.
