How to dispose of leftover medication

DCat has been prescribed 5 days of painkillers for a bite abscess. I’ve given her her last dose and there’s some left in the bottle.

How do I dispose of it safely?

I can’t find a proper answer by an internet search.

I’d phone the vet. With human medicine you can take unused medication to a chemist and they’ll dispose if it safely so I’m guessing vets would do the same with animal medication. And if they don’t they should know where will.

Our chemist has accepted veterinary medication from us before.

Thank you. It’s a new vet but I don’t recall having leftovers ever.
