Could a gerbil and hamster live together?

Further to my earlier thread regarding Hamsters v gerbils, I just wonder as hamsters fight each other, could we have one of each in the same cage - or would the hamster hurt the gerbil?

Missed your other thread - but we had hamsters in the past, and have now got a pair of gerbils. My vote is for gerbils all the way! They let us feed them from our hands, don't smell much, curl up to sleep together, and don't run away quickly when out of the cage. Ours are Ant and Dec and they are great!

Hamsters are solitary - they will kill anything else in a confined space... not a good idea!

Mice are another rodent to look out for - they are SUCH great fun and really gentle

Gerbils dont run away?!

I let our two (Rose and Martha) out on the sofa, they realised it was touching the curtains, shot down them on to the floor and it took me two hours to get them back again!

good god no!!! there would be one dead rodent the following day!

Probably two dead rodents as they would both inflict pretty serious wounds on each other before one finally gave up the ghost.

mice can be sweet but they stink. And it doesn't matter how often you clean the cage they stink.
