Can you have a house-cat and not spay it?

Just wondering if house cats (ie, indoor cats) need "sorting" as it were?

yes we have house cat and vet said needed to be done still something to do with the discomfort of when cat comes into season was recommended as not fair on them

The smell of a cat in season is far from pleasant! Don't tom cats spray less when 'done'?
