Old English Sheepdogs

Are they a dying breed? The Dulux dog. I had one when I was little, we got him when I was around 6, 7 years old. Growing up with him he was my best friend, I absolutely adored him. He was daft as a brush. I remember tying his hair on his head in a ribbon as I used to think he couldn’t see with it all over his eyes! We had him shaved I think twice a year, may of been once a year and he looked so different, a lady use to come to the house to do it & there would be about 2 or 3 bin liners of fur! He use to love his Sunday dinner leftovers too. We had him for 11 years so I was around 17, when he died, I was completely heartbroken.

We don’t have a dog, my family that is. My children now keep asking. It’s not something to rush into and I’ve always said it would have to be an Old English Sheepdog if we ever had one. Over the years I’ve idly looked online but can’t find any breeders in the UK, I did read an article in the DM (sorry!) a while back saying they were actually a dying breed, as there were hardly any registered that year, which makes me so sad.

So does anyone actually have one? Or know of any breeders? Just curious to see whether people do still have them!

DM had one but had to rehome 2 years ago when she had to move into smaller, unsuitable accommodation, she had had to travel for 6 hours to go and collect him as there were no local litters. She was devastated to give him up. We also had one as kids.

There are 49 breeders in the UK listed on www.champdogs.co.uk. Only kc reg breeders are allowed to list on Champdogs.
If you really want one, contact some of the breeders and ask to go on a wait list for their next litter. Expect to be questioned thoroughly so they can be sure you are a suitable forever home for one of their future puppies. (Beautiful dogs btw!)

We uave an OES, hes 4 years old. They are not easy to find, id call up the breed clubs and get a list of breeders and ring round and get your name on some waiting lists. It was always my childhood dream to own one and hes not disappointed me, always get stopped out and about as thet are so iconic. Lots of people stop to say they used to own them in the 70s or 80s but not so popular now. Having said that theres 4 local to me which before we got ours Id never seen about.
