Bullmastiff - Anyone have one?

I am looking into getting a new dog and after having staffies since a baby and then my own as an adult i want to change breed. Have always loved bullmastiffs, looked into the breed etc and found some reputable (KC reg) breeders.

Does anyone have a BM?

Thanks,

Carly

no i dont have one ,and i personally wouldnt get one with ickle children ,as the dog will end up being twice as tall as them and at weigh at least 10 ten times as much as them . Im sure there are lots of lovely mastiffs out there whose owners say butter wouldnt melt etc ,but their sheer size is so offputting to me and i have a large dog. Also and this is a biggy for me think slobber ,think turner and hooch ,think dripping off your walls ,furniture ,car interior ,childrens faces every day !!!! And they dont live very long due to their size ,your looking at 8 - 10 years ,plus expect lots of vets bills too with this breed . Ok finished rambling , best idea is to visit a really good breeder who has several adult dogs and think how the biggest one would fit into your home. Good luck anyhow

thanks ratclare. i know about the breed (life expectancy, size, slober!) etc, but agree re the children. house/garden both large - so not a prob there - but am still thinking on this.....

thanks

Hi my parents have a mastiff cross german shepard shes a big soft lomen with the kids shes a rescue dog aswell we got her 6yrs ago she wasnt meant to be with kids but when mine are down my parents she is brilliant lets them climb all over her she has never ever growled or anything at them

Its about how you treat and train the dog if you get one get a young one take it to puppy classes e.t.c make sure the dog knows you and the children are boss not them
